Instructions to open Snipping Tool in Windows 10

Open the Start Menu and navigate to All apps => Windows Accessories. Inside this folder, you will find the Snipping Tool shortcut.

The Snipping Tool Interfaces

How to use the snipping tool 

With Snipping Tool you can choose to take screenshots as follows:

* Free-form Snip allows you to draw arbitrary lines around the object or area to capture. * Rectangular Snip helps you take a rectangular screen, by dragging the cursor around the object. * Window Snip allows you to select a window (such as a web browser) or dialog box (such as an error message from an application) and take a screenshot. * Full-screen Snip allows you to capture fullscreen


The digital experience will use the Free-form Snip  option as an example


Step 1: Go to Snipping Tool

Step 2: Click on Mode and select Free-form Snip. Next click on New

Step 3: Select the area to capture by clicking and dragging the mouse cursor. By default, the selected area is surrounded by a red border. When you release the mouse button the selected area will be automatically copied to a new window. Here you can annotate, save, or share screenshots. 


Instructions for editing screenshots using Snipping Tool


Before saving the screenshot, you can edit it with the tools: Pen and Highlighter to add a markup to the photo. The Eraser tool has the ability to remove markers with Pen and Highlighter.

Then, save the screenshot, select the Save Snip button, choose the location of the folder to save, the file type and click Save to save the image. 

You can use the Snip button on the toolbar to send the screenshot via Email. This Snip button gives you two options: E-mail Recipient and E-mail Recipient (as an attachment). To use this button you need to install the application on the email. 


How to customize the Snipping Tool


You can set preferences for how the Snipping Tool works by clicking the Options button. The options are divided into two parts: Application and Selections groups. The Application section allows you to make the following changes: 

* Hide Instruction Text: Hides the instruction text in the main Snipping Tool window. * Always copy snips to the Clipboard: Copies the snapshots to the Windows clipboard so you can paste them into other applications. * Include URL below snips (HTML only): Save snapshot as Single File HTML or MHT document. If the picture is taken from the Internet Explorer window, it will also show the web page URL in the screenshot.  * Prompt to save snips before exiting: Displays a pop-up prompt to save the snapshot before exiting the application. * Show screen overlay when Snipping Tool: When disabled, when you take a screenshot, the transparent Snipping Tool won't show up on the screen anymore.


The Selection section allows you to customize settings related to the color scheme

* Ink Color: Change the color of the border when taking a photo. * Show selection ink after snips are captured: The outline will show around the photo, using the color selected in the Ink Color list. 


Snipping Tool is a great utility for you to use when you need to take screenshots of your computer.
